HillaryCare at Gunpoint

HillaryCare at Gunpoint

As decider-commander, Hillary will come gunning for you — or your paycheck at least — that is if you don’t pay your neighbor’s health care tab.

“Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton said Sunday she might be willing to garnish the wages of workers who refuse to buy health insurance to achieve coverage for all Americans,” reports the Associated Press.

The New York senator has criticized presidential rival Barack Obama for pushing a health plan that would not require universal coverage. Clinton has not always specified the enforcement measures she would embrace, but when pressed on ABC’s “This Week,” she said: “I think there are a number of mechanisms” that are possible, including “going after people’s wages, automatic enrollment.”

Universal coverage, sort of like universal servitude. Is it possible one of the “mechanisms” Clinton has in mind might be a SWAT team to ensure “automatic enrollment,” that is to say mandatory participation at the behest of the state?

“Clinton said such measures would apply only to workers who can afford health coverage but refuse to buy it.” In short, the government will decide not only what you can afford, but what kind of health care you will get, like it or not.

Call it mandatory insurance the same way car insurance is mandatory. It’s a scheme designed to enrich corporations, of course, as Clinton and Obama and the rest of them are all about big corporations.

Even the Greens, usually not shy about socialist schemes, are wary of this one. “Green Party leaders strongly criticized Sen. Hillary Clinton’s health care reform plan, calling it a capitulation to private HMO and insurance corporations and an affront to Americans who lack adequate access to health care,” a Green Party press release announced last September. “Greens called Sen. Clinton’s and other Democratic plans expensive and inefficient because of the duplication of administrative costs of multiple plans and because they offer fewer services in deference to profits.”

“A mandated health insurance requirement plan would guarantee more profits for health insurance companies and give them even more control over every American’s health care. It would not in any way contribute to health care reform. If put into effect, middle class families would be put into the position of making a choice whether to pay their mortgage or rent or to pay their health insurance coverage,” writes Shari Schneider. “It is worth noting that in 2005, more than half of all the bankruptcies filed were due to medical bills. One million Americans file bankruptcy each year citing medical bills and three-quarters of them already have medical insurance coverage. Many of them are working, have college degrees and own their own homes. If forced to purchase the required health insurance coverage under Clinton’s plan, even more Americans might have to file bankruptcy. Or, they could be faced with being labeled a tax evader because they are in violation of the mandated requirement.”

More reason to send out the aforementioned boys dressed in ninja black toting AR-15s and night vision monoculars.

In addition to profits gleaned at gunpoint, the Clinton scheme would require mandatory check-ups, including mental screenings, a truly scary prospect now that Clinton’s colleagues plan to pass the so-called Homegrown Terrorism bill in the Senate. Imagine a state shrink categorizing you as an “extremist” because you talked a bit too much about the Constitution during your screening.

“Both Edwards and Clinton have said that under their presidency every citizen in the U.S. would have to enroll in a state-managed socialized health care system where regular check ups, including mental screenings, would be mandatory,” warns Steve Watson. “The vision of an America where every citizen is forced by law to participate in health screenings overseen by the government should set stark warning bells ringing.”

Indeed, the warning bells are a-ringing, sort of like a five alarm fire. But few are paying attention.
